§ Connect a client

Claude.ai (Web). One URL, in two minutes.

Add OctaMem as a custom connector in Settings; the URL below includes your API key. Anthropic ships connectors as a beta — free plans get one custom connector at a time.

Optional — Claude Project for OctaMem

A project applies the same instructions to every chat inside it, so Claude is reminded to use OctaMem without you repeating the same setup each time.

1. Create the project

Open claude.ai/projects or Projects in the sidebar. Click + New Project. Enter a name and short description of what you are doing (Anthropic says Claude does not use those fields as model context — they are for you). Finish and open the project.

2. Add instructions about memory

On the project page, find Instructions (the UI may say Add instructions to tailor Claude’s responses; Anthropic’s docs call this Set project instructions in the project knowledge area). Save text that tells Claude to use OctaMem. You can start from this and edit:

example instructionstext
Use OctaMem (MCP) for long-term memory. Search it when the user needs prior context; store durable facts or preferences when they ask or when it clearly helps later.

3. Files (optional)

Files is for PDFs or documents you want in the project as fixed reference. That is separate from OctaMem, which is live memory over MCP.

4. Use OctaMem in this project

Start a chat inside the project. Next to the input, tap +, choose Connectors, and enable OctaMem. For fewer prompts, use Settings → Connectors → Configure → Tool permissions → Always allow, as in the first section above.
